Beauty at London Fashion Week A/W 11

In London beauty trends have been evolving, helping to make collections seem fresh, whilst offering us a glimpse of hair and make-up looks that will be popular for the coming season. As far a hair goes top stylists have been referencing Arizona Muse’s scruffy bob for the upcoming season – Paul Smith’s scruffy long bobs perfectly reflected Ms Muse’s vibe while hair was tucked into coats at Burberry to create a bob shape around the face.

In general hair has been boyish with very few super feminine dos. The extreme side sweep, aka the fashion comb-over, was seen at YSL and Celine, and featured at Antonio Berardi and Basso & Brooke. Slicked and perfectly formed hair was seen in flawless ponytails at Christopher Kane and Giles while at Danielle Scutt, Emilio de la Morena and Michael Van der Ham, hair was gelled back, so it might be worth investing in some Brylcreem come September.

The big news in make-up is eye-shadow. This season instead of merely smudged lids, shadow was taken all the way up to the brow to create a bold statement eye. While at some shows eyebrows themselves were bleached, many make-up artists pencilled heavy shapes.  Ultra creative make-up was seen at both Vivienne Westwood Red Label and Louise Gray; the look has been nicknamed the ‘Alex Box effect’ after the Director of super creative Illamasqua Cosmetics.  The result? Make-up that even Gaga would balk at.
